Content Abstract: The Texas Folklife Festival was first held in 1972 as an extension of the educational programs of the Institute of Texan Cultures museum. A major thrust of the Festival was to preserve and display the ethnic traditions and pioneer skills that had helped to form the state. The Festival features entertainment, skill demonstrations, local and ethnic food and beverages, music, and other programs. The collection spans the years 1970 through 2008 and contains correspondence, memoranda, newsletters, press releases, financial records, photographs, posters, and other materials documenting the Texas Folklife Festival.
