Content Abstract: osita Fernandez, a long time San Antonian and pioneer of Tejano music, gained international fame as a recording artist and movie star. The collection consists of scrapbooks, photographs, audiovisual material, and honors and awards, the bulk of which are in the form of plaques.The papers trace her career from the early days in radio, to her work in television and movie productions, through to her retirement in 1982 and subsequent activities.

Content Abstract: Sterling Houston had a thirty-year career in professional theater as an actor, musician and writer in San Antonio, New York and San Francisco. The papers primarily document Houston's involvement in San Antonio theater through scripts, screenplays, programs, and press materials. Also included are correspondence, research materials, project files, photographs, and audiovisual materials.

Content Abstract: The Opera Guild of San Antonio was founded in 1974 as a nonprofit educational and charitable association to promote the awareness of opera and encourage its growth. The records include correspondence, reports, minutes, agendas, scrapbooks, invitations, brochures, photographs, ephemera, and yearbooks and documents the public and administrative activities of the group.

Content Abstract: The Pierre Duval Hair Studio was opened by Jesse Duval Arrambide and Robert Pierre Teander in San Antonio, Texas in the early 1970s. For their collaboration with the Fiesta Dinner Playhouse in San Antonio, Jesse and Robert became known as the "hairdressers to the stars." In addition to visiting actors appearing at the Fiesta Dinner Playhouse, many Fiesta queens and their families relied on Pierre Duval Hair Studio. The bulk of the collection consists of albums containing photographs and playbills from the Fiesta Dinner Playhouse, autographed stills of actors, as well photographs taken at the home of Jesse and Robert.

Content Abstract: Bob Polunsky has been a film critic in San Antonio since 1953 and was the first critic in San Antonio to broadcast on both radio and television. This collection primarily consists of Polunsky's movie review manuscripts, interview videos and research materials. The bulk of the collection is interviews on Betacam video.

Content Abstract: Margaret King Stanley has resided in San Antonio for much of her life where she has been heavily involved in the local performing arts community, including the San Antonio Performing Arts Association, San Antonio Opera Guild and the San Antonio Symphony. The majority of this collection documents Margaret King Stanley's extensive work within the San Antonio arts community. Material types present are planning materials, correspondence, scrapbooks, programs, brochures, audio tapes, photographs and assorted ephemera.

Content Abstract: John Mathias Steinfeldt, known as the Dean of Texas Pianists, was a composer, pianist and organist and a Master-teacher. In San Antonio, he served as organist at the First Baptist church, San Fernando Cathedral and at Temple Beth-El. Steinfeldt gave lessons and encouraged the study of music throughout his career. He was president of the San Antonio College of Music, which he founded in 1920. He had four children with wife Vivia May Steinfeldt: Cecile, John Jr., Robert and Eric. Cecile and John Jr. were also accomplished musicians and taught for a few years at the San Antonio College of Music. Music scores, correspondence and scrapbooks, which contain clippings and other ephemera. The material, most of which dates from 1900-1954, documents events in the career and personal life of John M. Steinfeldt. The collection includes some of his musical compositions, including published works, drafts, sketches and fragments of his work. Some material also concerns the activities of his wife and children, particularly those of his daughter Cecile.

Content Abstract: The Festival of American Folklife, now the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, was initiated in 1967 and occurs annually over the July 4th weekend on the Mall, Washington, D.C. The 1968 festival was cosponsored by the Institute of Texan Cultures and highlighted Texas culture, including arts, crafts, agriculture, music and foods. Festival of American Folklife collection includes correspondence, news clippings, photographs and assorted printed material.

Content Abstract: The Institute of Texan Cultures Oral History Collection originated from a regional meeting of the Texas Historical Commission held in Bandera, TX in 1973 calling for the creation of an oral history program to document the history of San Antonio and Bexar County. The collection consists of 900+ interviews conducted since 1967 and document a broad range of activities related to life in Texas.

Content Abstract: The Texas Folklife Festival was first held in 1972 as an extension of the educational programs of the Institute of Texan Cultures museum. A major thrust of the Festival was to preserve and display the ethnic traditions and pioneer skills that had helped to form the state. The Festival features entertainment, skill demonstrations, local and ethnic food and beverages, music, and other programs. The collection spans the years 1970 through 2008 and contains correspondence, memoranda, newsletters, press releases, financial records, photographs, posters, and other materials documenting the Texas Folklife Festival.
