Content Abstract: Gilbert C. (Gil) Barrera was a freelance photographer who was employed by the University of Texas at San Antonio to photograph its building and organization from 1972 to 1978. The collection consists of photographic negatives and contact sheets created by Gil Barrera from 1972 through 1978 while employed to photograph the physical complex and activities of the University of Texas at San Antonio. Among the subjects represented in the collection are construction projects, ceremonies, graduating classes, concerts, distinguished visitors, conference participants, students, professors, and members of the University of Texas administration and Board of Regents.

Content Abstract: John C. Kight was director of transportation planning and development for 35 years with the Texas Department of Transportation – San Antonio District. In the 1960s John C. Kight purchased a small collection of glass plate negatives at an estate sale in the Alamo Heights area of San Antonio. While the photographer is unknown, the images appear to have been taken in and around San Antonio with a few taken in New Braunfels.

Content Abstract: Rancho Diana is a 1300-acre natural area owned by the City of San Antonio. The land was acquired through the 2005 (Prop. 1) voter-approved Edwards Aquifer Protection program and is part of the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone. It is currently not open to the public, but the city plans are to expand and appropriately develop the Friedrich/Crownridge/Cedar Creek/Rancho Diana contiguous park properties into a natural area destination. Content Abstract: This is a scrapbook of Edward Necker and new wife Mariquita (Necker) during their honeymoon to Mexico, June 1940. It contains 157 private black and white photos accompanied by detailed captions on most of the collection. Necker’s scrapbook details a long list of locales he and his new wife visited during their trip to Mexico. He also provides a 28-page typescript narrating their experiences and meticulously documenting their trip from south Texas through Laredo, Monterrey and the interior of Mexico.

The News and Information Office, and later the Office of University Communications, was responsible for all official UTSA photography, with contract photographer Gil Barrera also taking photographs for the University from 1972-1978. Content Abstract: Robert Willson was an internationally known artist who was educated in the Southwest United States and Mexico. In his early twenties he studied in Mexico and was among the first American artists to adapt Mayan and Mexican folk art imagery in his art. Willson's later work merged Ancient Mayan imagery with Italian glass sculpture techniques. The collection consists of photographs from Robert Willson's two educational trips to Mexico, with a focus on the local people and culture. Also included are signed photographs of artists he befriended, and promotional flyers for Socialism in Mexico.
