Content Abstract: The collection consists of 43 flags (8.5 in x 11.5 in) made by students from Alamo Heights Junior School in the late 1960s. The small flags are recreations of flags that have flown in Texas over the course of Texas history. The flags were originally displayed in the students' classroom, but were donated to be shown during HemisFair '68 (1968 World's Fair in San Antonio, Texas).

Content Abstract: Rosemary Kowalski is a San Antonio community leader and philanthropist involved in San Antonio's cultural, arts, human service, religious, and educational organizations. She purchased Uncle Ben's Barbecue restaurant with her husband in 1946, which developed into Catering by Rosemary, a successful catering business that eventually grew into a full service event planning company, The RK Group. The papers contain correspondence, photographs, clippings, appointment calendars, awards, audiovisual recordings, and electronic records pertaining to Kowalski's personal life, the history of her catering business, and her involvement in the community.

Content Abstract: Frank Duane Rosengren was a playwright, screenwriter, producer, poet, and lyricist. He had several produced plays in New York and Texas, worked for over thirty years in educational television, served as a Special Consultant for Theme Development for HemisFair '68, and was a newspaper columnist for the San Antonio Light and North San Antonio Times. The collection spans Rosengren’s entire professional career and is largely composed of scripts, drafts, correspondence, clippings, and notes from his work as a playwright, television writer and producer, consultant, and newspaper columnist.

Content Abstract: San Antonio Fair, Inc., incorporated in December 1962 to formally organize the planning, fundraising and designing of HemisFair '68 (the 1968 World's Fair) in San Antonio, Texas. The records of the San Antonio Fair, Inc., document the planning, lobbying, financing and construction of HemisFair '68. The records consist of correspondence, meeting minutes, committee reports, financial records, newspaper and magazine articles, press releases, photographic materials, blueprints, maps and plats, artwork, oral history interview transcripts, scrapbooks of clippings and ephemera, and audiovisual materials (film and sound recordings). Most of the records predate the opening of the fair.

Content Abstract: William (Bill) and Fay Sinkin, both known for their longstanding commitment to civic issues, married in 1942, made their home in San Antonio, and raised two sons. William is recognized for his involvement in civic, banking and community activities that promote small business. Fay is recognized for her community activism, especially in the areas of public health and water issues. The papers document the Sinkin's longstanding commitment to civic issues and include correspondence, clippings, articles, scrapbooks, photographs, videotapes, and date books. The collection has been organized into four series: William Sinkin, Fay Sinkin, Scrapbooks, Audiovisual materials.

Content Abstract: The San Antonio River Walk Commission was created to review and regulate development along the River Walk (Paseo Del Rio) and La Villita. The San Antonio River Walk Commission-David Straus Papers include meeting minutes for the San Antonio River Walk Commission, information about development projects, and history of the River Walk. An item of note in this collection is the Master plan for the creation of the River Walk and its expansion for HemisFair, the 1968 World's Fair.

Content Abstract: Vivian Johnson Hamlin Terrett spent most of her adult life as a resident of San Antonio, Texas, where she was an active member of civic and cultural organizations. Mrs. Terrett held a number of leadership positions in civic and historical preservation organizations. Positions included: Chairman, A Night in Old San Antonio, 1960-1961; President, San Antonio Conservation Society, 1961-1963 and 1971-1973; Director, Fiesta San Antonio Commission, 1961-1966; President, Texas State Historic Theatre Foundation of San Jose Mission, 1964; Vice-President, and founding member, San Antonio Arts Council, 1965-1966; President, Woman's Pavilion for HemisFair, 1966-1968; and Chairman, San Antonio Bicentennial Commission, 1975-1977. She received numerous citations for her work. Printed material, correspondence, reports, photographs, scrapbook material, and artifacts, 1966-90, document Vivian Johnson Hamlin Terrett's work in civic and cultural organizations in San Antonio, Texas, notably the Woman's Pavilion at HemisFair '68 and the San Antonio Bicentennial Commission. The majority of the material in the collection was donated by people who attended or worked at the fair. San Antonio hosted the World’s Fair at HemisFair Park in 1968. This collection contains ephemera, photographs, newspaper and magazine articles, audiovisual materials, and souvenir items which document HemisFair '68 and subsequent anniversary celebrations.

Content Abstract: The Institute of Texan Cultures Oral History Collection originated from a regional meeting of the Texas Historical Commission held in Bandera, TX in 1973 calling for the creation of an oral history program to document the history of San Antonio and Bexar County. The collection consists of 900+ interviews conducted since 1967 and document a broad range of activities related to life in Texas.

Content Abstract: The Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC), a museum and campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio, was established in 1965 by the 59th Texas Legislature. Its first director was R. Henderson Shuffler, who served as director from 1965-1975. Originally housing the Texas Pavilion at HemisFair '68, it was designed to study the ethnic groups that settled in Texas. In addition to its 50,000 square feet of exhibits featuring twenty-seven cultures and ethnic groups, the institute hosts the Texas Children's Festival, Pioneer Sunday, the Texas Folklife Festival, and other events. The collection spans the years 1941 through 2003 and includes the administrative records of various Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) departments. The records document the history of the ITC and its relationship with HemisFair '68, as well as exhibit planning, instructional programs, and projects planned by or proposed to the ITC. These materials were transferred to the Institute of Texan Cultures Library to be stored temporarily; the origin of most of these materials is unclear.

Content Abstract: Natalie (Zoe) Wright served on the Board of Directors of the Woman's Pavilion at HemisFair 1968 in San Antonio, Texas, the first world's fair ever to be held in Texas. She was born in 1928 in San Antonio, living in San Antonio and Austin, Texas, for most of her life. She attended the University of Texas at Austin from 1945-1946 as a drama major. She has been active in several civic organizations including the San Antonio Conservation Society, Military-Civilian Club of San Antonio, San Antonio Art League, American Red Cross, and the Salvation Army. This collection is comprised of one scrapbook, compiled by HemisFair 1968 Woman's Pavilion Board of Directors member Zoe Wright. The scrapbook spans the years 1967 through 1968 and includes materials documenting HemisFair 1968, with a particular focus on materials generated by and relating to the Woman's Pavilion.
