Content Abstract: The Festival of American Folklife, now the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, was initiated in 1967 and occurs annually over the July 4th weekend on the Mall, Washington, D.C. The 1968 festival was cosponsored by the Institute of Texan Cultures and highlighted Texas culture, including arts, crafts, agriculture, music and foods. Festival of American Folklife collection includes correspondence, news clippings, photographs and assorted printed material.

Content Abstract: The University of Texas at San Antonio was established in 1969. As of 2018, the University comprises three campuses: UTSA's Main Campus in northwest San Antonio, its Downtown Campus, and the Hemisfair Campus, which includes the Institute of Texan Cultures museum. The collection spans the years 1967 through 2018 and includes general materials documenting the history and development of the University of Texas at San Antonio. Materials include correspondence and memoranda, programs and invitations, speeches and presentations, organizational charts, meeting minutes, self-study reports and accreditation files, magazine articles, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, booklets on the establishment of the university, a copy of the legislative bill that established the UTSA, a Faculty Handbook, audiotapes, audiocassettes, and other materials. Materials seem to have emanated primarily from the office of the second UTSA President, Peter T. Flawn, but the collection also includes material from the offices of Presidents Arleigh Templeton, James Wagener, Samuel Kirkpatrick, Ricardo Romo, and Taylor Eighmy.

Content Abstract: The University of Texas at San Antonio was established in 1969. The Yearbook Organization, responsible for the production of UTSA's first yearbook, Horizons, originated in 1989 as the Yearbook Committee of the Student Representative Assembly. The final yearbook, produced in 1998, was created by a single student. The collection spans the years 1990 through 1998 and includes school yearbooks of UTSA. The yearbooks were created by students and document each year's activities at the university, with an emphasis on student life.

Content Abstract: Special Collections was a department of University of Texas at San Antonio Library until the department merged with the UTSA Archives in the late 1990s to become the Special Collections and Archives Department (later the Archives and Special Collections Department). In 2011 the department was renamed and again became Special Collections. UTSA Libraries Special Collections collects books and archival material relating to the history of San Antonio and the Southwestern United States. The collection spans the years 1818 through 1974 and is comprised of letters, various legal and genealogical documents, other manuscripts, and printed material pertaining to the history of South Central Texas.

Content Abstract: Signs and related ephemera in the collections were created by a variety of members of the public and UTSA students who attended rallies and marches in the San Antonio, New Braunfels, and Austin areas. UTSA Special Collections made public requests for the donation of these materials. The collection consists mostly of hand made signs but also includes artist prints, a pink knitted hat, two buttons, a sticker, and a small amount of flyers.

The majority of the material in the collection was donated by people who attended or worked at the fair. San Antonio hosted the World’s Fair at HemisFair Park in 1968. This collection contains ephemera, photographs, newspaper and magazine articles, audiovisual materials, and souvenir items which document HemisFair '68 and subsequent anniversary celebrations.

Content Abstract: In 1997 the Center for the Study of Women and Gender (CSWG) and the Archives for Research on Women and Gender (ARWG) initiated an oral history project to go along with that year's Women's History Week then, which was "Telling Our Stories/Contando Nuestras Historias." Utilizing an advisory board , the CSWG and ARWG chose a select number of San Antonio women who have made significant contributions to the community. The collection consists of correspondence, biographical information, release forms, oral history recordings on audiocassette and interview transcripts. The interviews were conducted February through July of 1997.

Content Abstract: The UTSA Art Collection is composed of over 1500 pieces representing more than 500 individual artists. The fine art pieces have been acquired through both gifts and purchases, and include mostly contemporary paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and mixed media by South Texas artists, some of whom are alumni of UTSA. The records span the years 1982 to 2019 and include planning, research, inventory, and other administrative files related to management of the UTSA Art Collection. The Center's faculty was also integral in the establishment of the Archives for Research on Women and Gender. The collection spans the years 1993 through 2001 and includes the administrative, operating, and planning files of the Center for the Study of Women and Gender at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Administrative files include annual reports and strategic plans; operating files document the day-to-day operations of the Center through correspondence, publications, fiscal records, newsletters, and other materials; and planning files pertain to Women's History Week, various conferences hosted by the Center, and other projects and include correspondence, brochures, posters, photographs, audiocassettes, videocassettes, and other materials.

Content Abstract: The College of Business was one of the first five colleges established at the University of Texas at San Antonio. The College of Business has overseen a number of research institutes, including the Institute for Studies in Business (ISB), the Center for Studies in Business, Economics, and Human Resources, the Human Resources and Development Program, Center for Global Entrepreneurship, and the Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship (CITE). Content Abstract: The Department of Art and Art History dates back to the earliest years of the University of Texas at San Antonio. The studio art curriculum was designed to prepare students for either professional careers in studio art or for teaching. The main fields of concentration have included painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and ceramics. Records consist of 100 fine art prints in five suites. These prints were either collected or produced by members of the Art Department, and were created using a variety of printmaking techniques, including lithography, intaglio, etching, and serigraphy.

Content Abstract: The Institute of Texan Cultures Oral History Collection originated from a regional meeting of the Texas Historical Commission held in Bandera, TX in 1973 calling for the creation of an oral history program to document the history of San Antonio and Bexar County. The collection consists of 900+ interviews conducted since 1967 and document a broad range of activities related to life in Texas.

Content Abstract: The Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC), a museum and campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio, was established in 1965 by the 59th Texas Legislature. Originally housing the Texas Pavilion at HemisFair '68, it was designed to study the ethnic groups that settled in Texas. The ITC Library was established in 1965 as a repository for books and images of artifacts being collected by researchers preparing exhibits for the Texas Pavilion. The vertical files were started in 1967 by the original Institute of Texan Cultures research staff, and was used for planning the exhibits for the Texas Pavilion at HemisFair. Staff members and student helpers toured the state making copies of items in libraries and private collections. After the fair, the research staff -- and later library staff-- continued to add to these files for exhibit updates and for use in publications, audiovisuals, and other ITC products. The general file was started for items that didn’t fit into the ethnic category.

Content Abstract: The Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC), a museum and campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio, was established in 1965 by the 59th Texas Legislature. Its first director was R. Henderson Shuffler, who served as director from 1965-1975. Originally housing the Texas Pavilion at HemisFair '68, it was designed to study the ethnic groups that settled in Texas. In addition to its 50,000 square feet of exhibits featuring twenty-seven cultures and ethnic groups, the institute hosts the Texas Children's Festival, Pioneer Sunday, the Texas Folklife Festival, and other events. The collection spans the years 1941 through 2003 and includes the administrative records of various Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) departments. The records document the history of the ITC and its relationship with HemisFair '68, as well as exhibit planning, instructional programs, and projects planned by or proposed to the ITC. These materials were transferred to the Institute of Texan Cultures Library to be stored temporarily; the origin of most of these materials is unclear.

The group, part of the Executive Director's office, would help out departments without administrative support staff. Collection documents Texas sesquicentennial celebrations in 1986 and 1995, HemisFair Park redevelopment, local public television station KLRN, UTSA's establishment of a campus in downtown San Antonio, the San Antonio River Walk, and assorted other topics. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, reports, meeting minutes, proposals, and maps.

The Exhibit Floor Task Group formed circa 1993 and was a long range, cross-departmental planning committee charged with developing a master plan for the renovation of the ITC's Exhibit Floor. Their work involved benchmarking, developing a philosophy of exhibits, conducting research and user surveys, and visiting other museum sites. The collection spans the years 1992 through 1998 and includes meeting minutes, reports, correspondence, notes, and electronic documents. Also included are blueprints of the ITC exhibit floor and exhibits, as well as exhibits of other museums.
